My art is an enigma. It is always changing. Class
requirement normally will normally push me into a certain theme. However, as a
student I don’t think I have explored enough options, techniques, and art forms
to actually find a specific overall theme for my artwork. Themes will occur
from what I have interests in. From that point I would find a way to fit it
whatever I have chosen into the requirements of my teachers. College right now
is the only place I really produce artwork at the moment since as an art
student I take around 3 to 4 art courses. That’s where I have plenty of time to
be creative.
I have had many different themes. In AP Studio it was
reusing materials. While I took printmaking my theme was outer space. I just
created the silliest thing in sculpture 1: giant teeth. I had to do realism while learning painting
1. There are particular things I am attracted to and tend to be drawn toward. I
really like geometric shapes, linear lines, and symmetry. Symmetry had been a
problem for me. I always use to like things centered on my page until my
printmaking teacher force me to become asymmetrical. After that I learned to
reposition parts of my composition. I also really liked art that is simple and
clean until I tool painting one where I had to turn in “alla prima” painting
for homework. During I was forced to become messy but neat: organized chaos. I was
happy to know that I could be messy. I must’ve been stubborn in my ways before
I came to Towson.
I feel that from trying different forms of art (sculpture,
painting, photography) that I will develop themes that I would not normally
take a liking too. Perhaps I would even be able to take themes I have already
done in different media and construct it in a different one. I really think
themes and ideas are limitless. I always have inspiration or random ideas. Of
course my ideas are propelled by my interests, events in my life, and current
events in the world.
